Students experience a day in the life of a San obstetrician & gynaecologist

Two year 11 students have experienced what it’s like to be an obstetrician & gynaecologist. Jessica Worrell from Pymble Ladies College and Rishita Garg from Abbotsleigh shadowed Dr Suelyn Lai-Smith after connecting with her at San Foundation’s recent STEMM event.

As part of their day in the life, the girls joined Dr Lai-Smith in her rooms seeing patients, toured birth unit, the maternity ward and also got to visit the operating theatres at the San. In July, San Foundation organised the inaugural STEMM event at the Clinical Education Centre (CEC), featuring nine esteemed medical professionals and welcoming over 200 girls from years 10 and 11. Students from Abbotsleigh Girls School, Loreto Normanhurst, Pymble Ladies' College, Ravenswood School for Girls, Adventist School Wahroonga, and more were part of the inspiring and empowering afternoon. The event provided an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable insights, ask questions, and be inspired by role models who are making significant contributions to their fields. Representatives from The Australian National University (ANU), San Education, and Avondale University also contributed to the event.
