Profile
Dr Florica is an Australian Specialist General and Bariatric Surgeon with over 20 years of experience in laparoscopic and robotic surgery. After earning his MD from Carol Davila Medical University (1990), he trained in trauma and orthopaedics at Groote Schuur Hospital and Witwatersrand University in South Africa, gaining broad expertise in emergency and complex surgery.
In 1995 he relocated to Australia, completing his FRACS in 2002. His practice focuses on minimally invasive surgery, with thousands of procedures performed, including hernia, gallbladder, colorectal, and anti-reflux surgeries, as well as published innovations in laparoscopic techniques. His main interest is bariatric surgery, covering sleeve gastrectomy, bypass, conversion, and revision surgeries, having trained with pioneers like Professor Paul O'Brien. In 2008, he completed a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery (University of Strasbourg), and in 2015 he was among the first in Australia to implement Da Vinci robotic surgery, developing techniques such as robotic total extraperitoneal hernia repair.
Dr Florica remains dedicated to advancing surgical technology and providing high-quality care, particularly for patients with severe obesity and complex revision needs.
Research
Dr Florica has contributed research papers, publication, lectures and other presentation on laparscopic surery and gastric banding at different levels of professional meetings. Current interests are in techniques of establishing pneumoperitneum where 1000 cases are reviewed and hernia repair techniques using optical trocars.
